A brief history of RED Contracting.
RED Contracting stands proudly as a family-owned enterprise, guided by the vision and drive of Stephen and Bradley Matthews. The name RED originates from the three fundamental construction elements - Roading, Earthworks, and Drainage - representing the core pillars of our business.
Founded by Stephen Matthews in 1998 under the name Matthews Civil Developments, the company evolved in 2013 with the inclusion of his son Bradley, leading to the establishment of RED Contracting.
At RED, we provide clients with a diverse array of services and tailored solutions to address their unique needs. Our mission is simple "To execute the BEST job the first time," reflecting our commitment to delivering excellence from the outset.
The Team
Steve Matthews
FOUNDER
Steve's had over 40 years of experience, and brought invaluable knowledge and technical skills that spanned many aspects of civil works. Respected by both clients and engineers, Steve's dedication and ability to solve complex construction issues significantly contributed to the company's success.
He was a hands-on leader, regularly present on-site to oversee operations. Steve prioritised client satisfaction and was committed to creating a safe and healthy working environment for his employees, fostering a culture of excellence and care.
Although Steve sadly passed away of June 2023, he left the company in capable hands. He built solid foundations and prepared his son Bradley to continue where he left off, ensuring the legacy of quality and reliability would endure. Bradley now carries forward the values and expertise his father instilled in the company, poised to maintain and even build upon the success they have achieved.
Bradley Matthews
Managing Director
Brad joined the company immediately after graduating from high school. Over the next 18 years, he worked closely alongside his father, inheriting Steve's extensive knowledge and drive. Now as Managing Director, Bradley oversees the day-to-day operations, ensuring maximum output and efficiency on all contracts with a strong emphasis on quality and health and safety management.
Bradley provides clear direction and sets specific goals for employee self-development, ensuring each individual's performance is effective, productive, systematic, and cost-effective.
He is committed to continuing to lead the company towards success, upholding the high standards of quality, reliability, expertise, established by his father.
Much like his father, Bradley is a hands-on leader who is often on site, prioritising client satisfaction and creating a safe working environment for all employees.
Siva Vishnu
Senior Project Engineer
Siva joined the team in 2019. He has a background in civil and commercial construction, with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. He works closely with Steve Matthews and is actively involved in Planning & Developing of all Engineering projects, preparing quotations and managing time frames, documentation and budgets.
Siva is also ensuring that all work undertaken, and behaviour exhibited is in accordance with appropriate technical standards and in accordance with EngNZ Code of Ethics and AS/NZS Standards by undertaking frequent Onsite HSEQ inspections.
Chris Wolley
Head Foreman
Chris has over 20 years experience in the industry and has acquired a broad knowledge with machinery, materials, and is a master in the operation of a Grader. Chris’s specialty is in pavement construction and he has worked on a diverse range of project types, differing sizes and complexity.
Chris controls his site with competence and works to strict time lines with ease, exceeding expectations and budgetary requirements. His friendly and cooperative manner has made him a preferred choice by many clients.
